In a world where careers change faster than Toronto weather, here’s one question that deems a response:

“If I changed industries … would my personal brand fall apart?”

It sounds dramatic, but definitely important to ponder.
Especially for people who built reputations the long, honest way. Through excellence, community, leadership, compassion, consistency.
Not through flashy titles.

So let’s walk into a little thought experiment.

What if you woke up tomorrow and your entire job was different?
New role. New industry. New business card.
Would people suddenly not recognize you?

We often treat personal branding like it’s tied to our job title.
But that’s like saying your identity disappears when you switch gyms.

The truth?

A real personal brand isn’t job-dependent.
It’s identity-dependent.
It’s value-dependent.
It’s impact-dependent.

Is it because they have the perfect LinkedIn headline?
No. It’s because there has always been a throughline.

Something stable, magnetic, and unmistakably them.

It might be:

  • The way they see the world (strategic, empathetic, detail-driven, community-oriented)

  • How they solve problems

  • A signature energy that’s lights up the room

  • The mission they are on which is bigger than any job title

  • Their commitment to serving, healing, leading, teaching, building, or elevating others

Titles change. Industries shift.
But who you are travels with you. And that’s the part people remember.

I’ve photographed people who left corporate to start wellness practices, executives who stepped into advisory roles, and creatives who became educators.

Not one of them lost their brand. But for many, it took time, vulnerability, and a few honest conversations to uncover it.

So the real question isn’t:

“Would changing careers change my personal brand?”

It’s:

“Has my personal brand been strong enough and honest enough to evolve with me?”
