When Fear Shows Up to a Branding Shoot

Before almost every branding session, there’s a quiet conversation happening inside my client’s head.

It sounds like:

  • “I should lose five pounds first.”

  • “I don’t know how to pose.”

  • “What if I hate every photo?”

This week, one of my clients wrote something so honest in her newsletter that I asked if I could share it.

Because what she described? It’s universal.

Here’s what she wrote after our shoot:

Well it’s been a minute and yes I’ve been busy, but in all honesty I’ve just been dealing with my life.

Yes, I’m now a fitness model lol. I had the pleasure of doing an amazing branding shoot with photographer Diana Renelli

I have to tell you, it was an emotional roller coaster getting ready and staying present in this shoot.

The logic vs my fear was real.

My Fear:

  • These pictures are forever and my body doesn’t look like it used to or how I want it to look.

  • My hair is too bright, maybe I should have gotten my roots done.

  • I don’t know how to pose, I never know what to do with my hands.

  • What if I hate all the pics, and I’ve wasted Diana’s time.

The Logic:

  • I really needed new pics for my website and headshots for all the events I was doing.

  • My body is doing the best it can right now. Honour her.

  • You’ll figure it out, you always do.

As per usual, my logical side won, I faced my fears and I even let a lil tummy show . And everything turned out just fine.

I share this all because I know I’m not the only one who has these fears and insecurities, but If we don’t face them, then we will never know what we are capable of. Keep trying new things, seeing new places and meeting new people.

If you go in with a positive, open mind, then you can explore the parts of yourself you’re yet to discover. Look out for a website update and new pics in the each newsletter, coming soon!

What I have to say:

What moves me most isn’t that she looked strong.
It’s that she felt scared and showed up anyway. And I couldn’t tell that she was afraid.

A photography branding session really is this:
Not perfect bodies.
Not perfect posing.
Not waiting until everything feels “ready.”

Things will never be perfect but the timing will be even if everything isn’t exactly ready.

It’s honouring the version of you that exists today.

And that version? You’re enough. More than enough.
