Do you tell yourself that you look terrible in photos, “I would never do a brand photoshoot”?

Do you get a full-on body NO when you think about being in front a camera let alone a professional one?
Maybe it's not that bad.  Maybe you just get really nervous about it?

Then you start to tell yourself all of the usual demeaning, rude things that you wouldn't say to your worst enemy or your beloved child. I'm too old, I'm too fat, who the hell do I think I am?

Well we all struggle with self-doubt, before a shoot, I'm going to be brutally honest here, but hear me out.

Even on the other side of the lens, I sometimes feel the same way about myself.

I worry, can I pull this off? Who do I think I am? Annie Leibovitz? I'm too old. Am I really helping people?

But then I start moving my body, I start thinking about the light, I start thinking about the person and what they really need.

I get into a creative flow, so the nervous energy is still there but it’s manageable.

And sometimes, it takes the person I'm photographing a little bit to stop thinking about the camera. It’s natural to be nervous but we are in this together. Often I encourage them to think about the service they offer, the people they want to help and the people they have helped. Then we talk about why the world needs them.

What I'm trying to do is to show the world their energy, their story, their impact.

If people don't see you, you don't exist.

And you don't need the whole world to know that you exist. Just the ones you are looking for. And the ones who are looking for you. The ones who matter.

This all happens during the shoot, but let me tell you, what happens before the shoot is just as if not even more important.

Stay tuned.
