A Year of Film Photography at Allan Gardens Conservatory | Diana Renelli

Not everything can make the cut when you have an exhibit

I found miracles in the cacti: a year of film photography at Allan Gardens Conservatory

For 52 weeks I photographed inside Allan Gardens Conservatory in Toronto, on film. For that whole year, the only record was a very spotty diary and the photos that were on celluloid not yet developed.

I've been rereading that diary this week, getting ready for tomorrow night's auction at Hotel Victoria. In April 2024, out of film and wishing I'd brought another roll, I wrote:

I noticed how some draped from above, while another continued to grow under the frame of the glass. No idea how it managed to do that. It will be interesting to see it in a year.

That's the strange part of holding the film. I wrote that with no idea what I'd caught. It took a year to find out.

Tomorrow night, the framed fine art prints from In the Hours of Light go to auction, and I'll be sharing more of that diary in person. I'd love for you to be there.

Thursday, October 22, 7 to 9pm Mosaic Room, Hotel Victoria, 56 Yonge St., Toronto Silent auction of the framed collection. What you pay for your ticket goes toward your winning bid. Bring a friend: two tickets for the price of one. 2 for 1 ticket link
